KILL THE RASP - NOT THE POWER. The Rasp Terminator was developed by Custom Performance Innovations to solve the single most complaint heard among BMW M3 owners - the rasp noise. This hideous exhaust noise is emitted from any 2001 to 2006 BMW E46 M3. There is nothing wrong with the engine, it's just a matter of physics - a combination of high compression, variable valve timing, and cylinder head exhaust port design that causes a high-pitched, metal-rattling sound (i.e., the rasp) that is very loud and noticeable when the engine is revving at or above 4,000 rpm. The front section of the exhaust system - also known as section 1 - (shown below) is where this high-pitch rasp noise emanates and is the only place where it can be terminated.

The Rasp Terminator is a direct replacement for the original section 1. It is made from 2.375-inch mandrel bent, polished 304 stainless steel (16 gage), with a polished 304 stainless steel resonator. The Rasp Terminator uses dual core, straight through design that enables the Rasp Terminator to completely and permanently eliminate the rasp while allowing for a free-flowing exhaust. The stainless steel flanges are TIG welded to the stainless steel pipes for strength and durability.
Many customers have reported an increase in low end torque after installing the Rasp Terminator.

Had the pleasure of being the first Rasp Terminator recipient. After a lot of time with it (6 hour drive to Charlotte) I wanted to tell you what I thought of it.... It is fantastic. The loud "purr" is constant through out the power band without sounding like a bunch of cats in a sack. OEM Section one swapped with Rasp Terminator in 45 minutes - cost $79.33(installation). It totally changed the sound, it even made the rattle from shifting back in gears go away. It is deep and 100% rasp free. Got the Powerhouse Amuse Ti system installed. The sound will blow you away literally. I hated the rasp on my M3 since I bought it but didn't want to cut the stock pipe. Luckily, Custom Performance makes a bolt on Rasp Terminator, which solved my problem. You CANNOT believe the difference this pipe makes! The engine no longer sounds like it is going to blow up and the annoying high-pitched rasp is replaced by a low throaty tone. So much so that you have to retrain your ear to know when to shift - it sounds great up until the red line! (Sean, Massapequa, NY).
The Rasp Terminator - easy to install, high quality, great fit, and the sound is just about right - nice wail at higher RPM's. Absolutely no drone, and if anything it's a tad on the quiet side - but I expect it to get louder a bit as the RT ages (OE exhaust). (Mike, Hollywood FL).
